MINUTES OF THE BOARD MEETING
OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
 March 14, 2018

The Mayor called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
The Pledge of Allegiance – said by all.

Local Law #1 – 2018 – “OVERRIDE OF TAX LEVY LIMIT”

Village Counsel presented to the Board the Local Law #1 – 2018 “A local law to override the tax levy limit established in General Municipal Law 3-C.”  Mayor DeMento made the motion to adopt Local Law #1- 2018, which was seconded by Trustee Noone and confirmed by all.  


Proposed Budget

Trustee D’Angelo presented the proposed budget for the fiscal year ended May 31, 2019.  He stated that the objective of the budget is to keep the Village fiscally sound while addressing needed improvements in infrastructure, maintenance and beautification. Trustee D’Angelo informed the Board that the proposed budget, which is a work in progress, will be available on the Village website on March 15, 2018.      


MPWC Annual Kids Charity Run

Mayor DeMento read a letter sent by Ms. Aline Lennon, Co-Chair of the MPWC Kids Fun Run Event.  The letter states that the event will take place Saturday, June 2, 2018 between 9 am – 10:30 am.  The race will begin and end at Polliwog Pond.  Motion made by Trustee Lippmann to approve the charity run, which was seconded by Trustee Ceriello and confirmed by all.  

Speed Radar Signs

Trustee Lippmann updated the Board on traffic safety in the Village.  He stated that he has had continued dialogue with the Nassau County Police Department regarding safety enforcement particularly during rush hour.  He was pleased to learn that the Town of North Hempstead will be distributing radar speed signs to Villages on the North Shore, including Munsey Park.  The Village has been in contact with the Town to ensure our participation and determine exact locations when the signs become available.  

Update on Hawthorne/Eakins Road Improvements

Trustee Noone updated the Board on the Hawthorne/Eakins Road improvement project.  Survey work is still in progress due to the three nor’easters that prevented the surveyor from completing the work.  Trustee Noone explained that accurate surveying of the road section cannot be completed with any snow on the road shoulder.  The engineer is in the process of preparing the bid books for the project, bids should be completed by the end of the month and bidding will commence shortly thereafter.  Bids will be presented to the Board in April or May and voted on.

Board Meeting Times

Trustee Noone suggested to the Board the possibility of having an afternoon Board of Trustee Meeting to accommodate residents who cannot attend the evening meetings.  The Board agreed that further discussion will be held on meeting times.

The Mayor then thanked Deputy Mayor John Lippmann for his four years of service.

Motion to close the public meeting made by Trustee Noone, seconded by Trustee Ceriello and confirmed by all at 8:32 PM.
