The Village of Munsey Park
The Village of Munsey Park, a vibrant and diverse community with a population of approximately 3,000, enjoys a quiet suburban atmosphere, yet is conveniently connected to the heart of Manhattan - only 20 miles and a quiet 27-minute commuter train ride away. The Village is also home to the well known Miracle Mile of North Shore, Long Island.
With its close proximity to the golden beaches, fine arts museums, renowned universities, major airports, town and county parks and recreation facilities, and world class shopping centers, Munsey Park captures suburban living at its very best.
Munsey Park was developed on land purchased by newspaper publisher Frank A. Munsey in 1922 and willed to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1925. From the beginning, homes were designed by architects to conform to a traditional 'American' style of home - custom built using the best materials and workmanship. To this day plans for alterations, additions or new construction are reviewed to insure proper design and individuality, while protecting each neighborhood from extreme designs not in architectural harmony with the rest of the community. If the street names evoke images of paintings it's because they were named in commemoration of great American artists.
Under the guidance of an elected Mayor and Board of Trustees, as well as an appointed Board of Appeals, Building Advisory Committee, and Tree Committee, Munsey Park has evolved into a village of beautifully landscaped parks, pristine ponds, treelined roads and stately homes. A butterfly garden has recently been planted in one of the parks where it can be enjoyed by all visitors. The care, preservation and nurturing of nature's beauty is prime and foremost in our agenda to foster a community of gracious homes in a park-like setting. Munsey Park is honored to have been named Tree City, USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation since 1983.
Munsey Park is fortunate in their ability to draw on the creative resources of an involved citizenry and dedicated local government when forging a self-sufficient and efficient community. Village services are supported through Village property taxes and fees from improvements individuals make to their property. The roads are maintained, cleaned and plowed by its own maintenance crew, and refuse removal, from the backdoor, is contracted with a private carter.
Children of Munsey Park may attend Munsey Park Elementary School, part of the Manhasset School District, from kindergarten through grade six. Secondary and high school education is provided for by the nearby Manhasset Campus. All district schools are renowned for their pre-eminence in academic excellence, meritorious artistic and musical endeavors, and outstanding athletic achievements. Students have consistently and significantly scored above the state and national average in standardized testings.
